When building a koi pond you have to make sure it it is done correctly. Koi need their room and this helps prevent diseases occurring. This is so that your koi have sufficient space to move. Please go to koi fish pond for more information.

Your koi pond size will be dependent on the amount of koi fish you will keep. The greater the number the larger the pond will be. Keep only what you can manage.

There is no need to bring your koi inside if you build your pond well. If you bring them inside it will be in a tank or pond. This can be very expensive, but if built correctly you can keep your koi in the outside pond during the winter.

Occassionally a cover is needed to keep out predators. This is particular in the case when you are gone for a significant period of time.

When you are making the hole for your pond make sure it is at least four feet deep. If it is not below the frost line then you got to bring your koi inside.

Adequate filtration is essential to avoid water quality problems. Poor water quality will weaken koi fish immune system. Your koi will then become ill. As you can see getting a good filtration system is worthwhile.

A small amount of water should be changed regularly. This will help ensure the water quality maintained. Excess food and other objects should be removed regualarly to stop your fish getting ill from polluted water.
